Happy New Year!

Posted in Uncategorized on December 29, 2010 by hocuspoc

I hope you all enjoyed your holiday. As I sit here at my desk, I find it hard to comprehend that the year 2010 is just days away from ending. It reminds me of what my father said, “The older you get, the years pass by just a little quicker.” This year seemed to fly by at warp speed. Looking back, I’m thankful for all that I have, for my wife, Betty, my children, Renee, Cole, Aimee, and Max, for our good health and all the blessings we’ve been given. I’m also very thankful for all of you and your continued support and friendship throughout the years. It’s pretty amazing when I think about it — I started this business when I was only 19 years-old with less than $3000.00 (did I just say $3000.00) and who would have thought that it would have turned into the business it is today! Again, all due to your support — that’s real magic!

This afternoon, I think I’ll take off early. In fact, I just might take the rest of the week off, catch a movie or two with Betty, and ring in the New Year.

So, as we near the end of this year, I am excited to see what lies ahead. I wish you and your loved ones a very happy, healthy, and prosperous 2011!

Until next time,

Paul

Merry Christmas!

Posted in Uncategorized on December 23, 2010 by hocuspoc

It’s been quite a week as we near the big day. Lots of packages going out and still shipping many last-minute gift-givers’ orders overnight! This week also brought a very nice visit from Mark and Nani Wilson’s son, Greg and his wife Ayako. They were kind enough to personally deliver another batch of the 50th Anniversary Allakazam Wands. And while they were here, they also brought a set of the puppets from the Burger King Magic Show. Many of you may not know that Mark Wilson was responsible for the Magical Burger King character and designed an entire franchised magic and puppet show, which toured throughout the United States. He even personally trained and taught the actors who portrayed the Magical Burger King. As Greg was going through the vast Allakazam warehouse, he found a few sets of these very rare puppets.

The Wizard and Burger Queen

Each of the puppets were created by famed puppetry artist, Renee and now are a highly sought-after collectible. If you check out the picture, you can see the detail and highly expressive features on each puppet. Now here’s some exciting news: Mark and Nani have decided to part with a few sets. That means that if you are interested, you should contact me as soon as possible for all the details. I can tell you this: I know where one set is going to go! (Betty, that’s a hint for perhaps an early Christmas present.)

Speaking of Christmas, tomorrow, Christmas Eve, we’ll close early and go to my mother in-law’s house as I do every year where we’ll have a HUGE buffet of every kind of food you can think of, we’ll exchange gifts, and later in the evening, we’ll go to my aunt’s house and do the very same thing. On the way home, Betty and I will drive through a special section of town known for its lights displays. Then, it’s home and off to bed to get ready for Christmas Day. In the morning, all my kids will join us for gift-giving and we’ll have our traditional Christmas lunch. We’ll of course watch “It’s a Wonderful Life,” and spend the rest of the day together.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your continued friendship and support. You have made this year one of our best, and I am truly thankful for that. So please enjoy your holiday with your loved ones.

Allaka-Christmas

Before I go, I want to share this great Allakazam Christmas wish with all of you.

On behalf of myself, my family, and the entire staff of Hocus Pocus, we wish you the happiest of holidays.

Until next time,

Paul

Ho Ho Ho!

We’re definitely in the spirit here at Hocus Pocus! Check out the cool reindeer antlers and Rudolph nose my son got me for my car! I saw these last year and looked all over the place this year but couldn’t find them anywhere! Leave it to my son Max, however, to go on the hunt and come back with a successful find! Ever since I’ve put them on my car, I’ve had people wave, laugh, point, and little kids just stare. I love it!

I can’t thank you enough for keeping us on our toes as we’ve been busier than ever this year. In fact, it’s shaping up to be the busiest holiday season we’ve ever had here at Hocus Pocus. Just like last year, we’ve had to have multiple pick-ups and deliveries from UPS, Fed-Ex, and the post office! We have even arranged special early morning deliveries during the entire month of December from UPS just so we can get your orders out the door quicker in order to make sure it arrives on time for you! And it really helps! If you haven’t finished your holiday shopping, there’s still time and we can still offer you expedited delivery on all in-stock items.

For almost a month, we knew about a particular new product hitting the masses called Cup Zero. We were sworn to secrecy and were not allowed to advertise it on our web site until yesterday, December 15th, even though we had them sitting in our warehouse. It was driving me crazy because I knew once we made it available, it would be a huge hit! In case you don’t know about this product, Cup Zero is the latest offering from our pals at Twister Magic, and it has been flying out the door in record numbers! This is the perfect last-minute Christmas gift or stocking stuffer (hint, hint) so do yourself a favor and check it out along with the online video HERE!

Speaking of stocking stuffers and Christmas gifts, Betty and I are almost done with our shopping. A few more small gifts, and we’re all finished! We spent last night wrapping everything up and putting them under the tree. This year, we’ve had to put a puppy gate up in order to keep Buster, our 8 month-old French Bulldog away from the tree. Each day when we come home, we are surprised at what mischief he’s gotten himself into. We know that if he could get anywhere near that darned tree, he’d have every gift opened and then some… It’s a good thing he’s so cute, otherwise he’d be in big, big trouble.

So, starting tomorrow, it’s seven days and counting until Christmas Eve. Wow, has this month gone by fast!

Until next time,

Paul

Happy Holidays to everyone! We celebrate all holidays at Hocus Pocus, because that’s the way we roll, and we hope that you are enjoying whatever Holiday you choose to celebrate! Going, Going, Gone

We are continuing to add to our Private Estate Collection. It just amazes me how fast some of these items are gone once we put them on the website. This week we received a very rare Petrie-Lewis Blooming Rosebush, one of only twelve in existence, and it sold in one day! Then we received a Richard Gerlitz Family Ties and it sold within 15 minutes of appearing on the website…Not even enough time for me to enjoy them in the showroom…seriously, if you are at all interested in these rare finds you need to check the website daily because they are going, going, gone…

Company’s Coming

It seems the other thing the Holidays are bringing, besides good cheer, is visitors.  We love visitors! Yesterday, some of our friends from Murphy’ Magic came to visit; Michelle Quinn, Damon Morris and Sandi Baker spent the day with us. We all had a great time, a great lunch, and a great visit. It was also so much fun to see someone in the industry, Damon that means you, get so excited about the products in our showroom (he even left with a couple of goodies). Good to see you guys in Fresno!

Wacko the Magician drove in from L.A. with a carload of goodies! I love when I see Wacko pulling in to the parking lot because he brings the best effects for trade. We were WOWed by the original Owens Extended Blade Wrist Chopper that he brought with him.  It’s not on the website yet, but it won’t be around for long.

Today we have Tom O’Lenick gracing us at Hocus Pocus. It’s Tom’s first visit to Hocus Pocus so I put him right to work helping me unpack the latest shipments of Private Estate Vintage and Collectible items.  We couldn’t wait to unpack the next box because our excitement just kept growing. We were like two kids in a Candy Store!

We are the Champions

Okay, maybe we aren’t exactly the champions, but the SF Giants are. Our son, Cole, along with a few of his friends bought Giants Season tickets and because of this they were invited by the Giants to a private viewing of the World Series trophy where it is not behind glass; even though they were not allowed to touch it, it was pretty exciting.  Cole and his friends got together at The Public House (the AT&T Park Bar) for drinks and did their season ticket draft to pick games, then they got to go see the trophy. It was a VERY fun Thursday for Cole and we’re living a little vicariously right now…

Enjoy your Holidays.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Posted in Uncategorized on December 3, 2010 by hocuspoc

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We certainly enjoyed ourselves and had a good time. My mother in-law, as always, outdid herself. This year, at my request, she actually cooked 2 turkeys! One for our Thanksgiving meal and the other to carve up and send home with each one of us for turkey sandwiches. Every year, 2 weeks before Thanksgiving, I start craving turkey and begin watching the Food Network and begin drooling at the thought. Now that I’ve had my fill, I’m good to go all the way until next year.

To say that the Christmas rush has hit would be an understatement; we felt its rumblings shortly before Thanksgiving, and we hit the floor running the day after! My day started on Friday at 5:00 AM and thanks to you there were plenty of orders waiting online, on voice mail and email. While I was busy processing orders, my two sons and son in-law were hard at work on our front yard at home putting up all our lit decorations. Now, our house is completed inside and out and this weekend we go and get the tree! We’ll put the Christmas music on while we decorate the tree, and I know that Betty will want to watch her favorite, “White Christmas.”

MAKING A LIST, CHECKING IT TWICE

I’ve noticed that a lot of you have been taking advantage of your online wish lists. This is very smart to do. Hey, you can even print it out and leave it in a conspicuous place, making it easier for your family and friends to select that perfect gift for you. All they have to do is call us toll-free at 800-407-4040 or place the order online. They don’t even have to leave the house to do it! Then leave the rest to us; we’ll make sure you get exactly what you want, just in time for the holidays!

Speaking of the holidays, we have a special product category dedicated exclusively to Christmas/holiday magic effects. You might want to check that out right HERE! Remember, adding one simple effect from this category can set your show apart from all the rest.

We’re really excited that our good friends at Creative Magic have chosen us to offer their latest effect, “Invisible Paint.” I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to learn about this brand new take on the classic Square Circle. In fact, it’s more than just a Square Circle; check it out along with the online video by simply clicking on the image above. The other great news is that they are offering a special: Place your order before January 1, 2011 and save a full $145.00. Now that’s a great deal, if I do say so myself!

While you are on the web site, do yourself a favor and check out the Private/Estate/Antique Magic category; it’s become hotter than our Hot/New section with more items going up than any other category daily! There are so many unique items there, it’s an interesting look into magic’s past. For me, it’s like being a kid again thumbing through all those magic catalogs! We still have hundreds of items to list, so do yourself a favor and check it out at least once a day. Simply click HERE to check out all the goodness waiting for you!

PRE-ORDER UPDATE

If you were waiting for the new Sean Bogunia uITRa Dancing Hank, they have arrived and are shipping out as I type this. Believe me when I say that this thing was worth the wait and from some of the testimonials already received, it seems like the magic fraternity agrees!

Also, the newest Tenyo items, Ghost Lamp and 4-D Surprise have also arrived and all pre-orders have been shipped as well! I like them both but my personal favorite is 4-D Surprise. I think I’ll keep one of them for myself.

Gotta go. More boxes to pack and orders to take. Thank you all for keeping us so busy this holiday season!

Until next time,

Paul
