Forgot to Mention Barclay Shaw

On last week’s blog, we took a trip down memory lane with videos from my favorite performers of yesteryear. I forgot Barclay Shaw, so here he is performing some of his best work.

The Great Barclay Shaw with Toto The Clown

The Great Barclay Shaw with Clara-Cluck

Tom O’Lenick wrote and excellent article of Barclay Shaw:

“Shari Lewis, Jay Marshall, John Shirley, and Barclay Shaw have all shared something in common that is quite unique in the world of entertainment. They each were recognized as successful magicians as well as versatile puppeteers. Yet one, Barclay Shaw, was relatively unknown to many magicians and puppeteers despite being described as “The World’s Greatest Exponent in the Art of Marionettes and Miracles.” Shaw, who was born in Hosack, United Kingdom (1931-1992) became a master of both marionettes and illusion.

As a young child Shaw’s family moved to New York City where his fascination with puppetry is said to have been captured when he saw a clown marionette on display in Macy’s department store…..” Read the rest of the article.

Shaw Levitation; Urban Legend or Real?

Unbeknownst to many, Barclay Shaw was also a very talented magician. In fact, he developed a levitation that was highly sought after by many professional magicians. Today, David Copperfield owns the levitation and it’s housed as part of his massive collection. For the longest time its existence was thought to be an urban legend, but here it is as captured on the television show THAT’S INCREDIBLE in 1990 with a Spanish voiceover.

A Special Thanks from Paul Green

As many of you know, magician Paul Green has undergone a trying time with his health and has been very brave and public about his condition via Facebook. Paul forwarded a lovely message thanking all who contributed to him. He asked that we pass along a heartfelt message to you. Paul’s message is below.
