Happy Memorial Day Everybody

Betty and I are taking a quick jaunt to the coast again for the holiday weekend and are planning on having a relaxing weekend.

This week we had a visit from several magic friends including Phil Ackerly and sideshow legend Bobby Reynolds.

Phil brought in a rare and wonderful stage prop for consignment, a vintage 1974 Paul Burleson Sword Cabinet Illusion. We had fun putting it together and marveled at Burleson’s design and attention to detail.

Burleson actually put a small flap on the lid, which allows the illusionist to see where the blades are going rather than fumbling about trying to find the exit hole for the sword.

Here’s a photo overview of us putting it together just after unloading it.

It was fun piecing this illusion together.

Bobby Reynolds and his young friends, all sideshow performers, stopped in to pay us a visit. We had to get a shot of them before they left in their bus. They told us that the bus broke down in the Walmart parking lot and had to be left their until they could afford to do the repairs. That took SEVEN months.

Yep, in seven months not ONE person ticketed or bothered to contact them about its removal. Guess that catchphrase on the back helps a bit.

According to our friends at Wikipedia, Memorial Day is a US federal holiday wherein the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces are remembered.

The holiday, which is celebrated every year on the final Monday of May, was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War.

Memorial-Day-Message

To all those who have served we are most grateful, and for those that have given the ultimate sacrifice, we remember and honor you with sincerest respect.

All gave some, but some gave all.

Until next time my friends,

Paul
