Yo Ho, Yo Ho! A Pirates Life for Me!

Last weekend Betty and I went down to the Wilson Warehouse Alley Sale. It seemed to go very well for Nani & Mark and there were a good number of people who turned out for the event. I got to catch up with several good friends and customers and overall it was a resounding success.

In particular, I really enjoyed getting to take my friend Mark Price into the inner sanctum of the warehouse and brother was he ever thrilled! Not many were allowed past the gatekeepers, but the Wilsons allowed me to show Mark some of the amazing props, treasures and collectibles contained within their secret warehouse. Clearly, Mark enjoyed himself as I saw him make several trips to his car to unload items he had purchased.

The Big Fresno Fair

We really like this time of year because the Big Fresno Fair is comes to town and we are, at heart, fair people. Betty and I have already been once and we’re going back tonight for more. It’s a family tradition. We would take the kids every year, and now they love going every year just as we do.

Visitors In Town for the Big Fresno Fair

Louie Foxx, Capt’n Jack Spareribs and Dr. Solar came by the store this week. All three are in town performing at the Big Fresno Fair. Capt’n Jack Spareribs is a pirate (magician) who entertains with magic, wit and humor at Pier 39 in San Francisco and fairs and festivals much like Louie, who is also a seasoned performer that brilliantly garners a crowd without breaking a sweat.

Capt’n Jack Spareribs and Louie Foxx both purchased items from us to put into their shows. Jack bought a card sword that really looked like a pirate’s sword (they’re especially hard-to-find) and Louie bought THIS IS HEAVY by Jay Mattioli recognizing it as a winning effect.

Thanks Capt’n Jack Spareribs and Louie Foxx for several very fun visits to the store. We are always welcoming to visitors, so if ever you’re passing through Fresno or in the area, don’t hesitate to stop in and see us.

Abbotts Ghost Walks

Just in time for helping us decorate the showroom for Halloween, we got an early version of Abbott’s Ghost Walks in this week. I love this kind of vintage prop. It screams 1940’s Spook Show and I have no immedaite intentions of selling this prop — subject to change — but for now, this skeleton is NOT going anywhere!

Effect: A flat board is shown. This board is coffin-shaped and is fitted with a series of holes. It is lacquer finished and bears the outline of a life-size skeleton. The performer explains that the skeleton represents a “ghost” of a now-departed escape artist.

The board, together with a length of plated chain and a padlock are carefully examined. The magician stands with his back to the board and permits members of the audience to fasten him securely to the board by means of the chain and padlock. As the chains are passed through the holes the sound emitted is very spooky.

After he has been bound and locked securely in place, the magician calmly walks free of the chains – and this is accomplished in full view!

3 Amigos of Magic Show 3 Weeks Away!

Our 3-man show, now named The 3 Amigos of Magic, don’t ask, is just three weeks away. My assistant, Linda, and I have been practicing like we’re going on a world tour, but I’ve got to deliver that “Paul Gross” quality that audiences have come to know. At least, audiences from 26 years ago. Here’s the promo Tim wrote up.

THE THREE AMIGOS OF MAGIC

That triple-tricky trio, THE THREE AMIGOS OF MAGIC is coming to a dance hall, truck stop or dinner theater near you.

In this incident, the day after Halloween, Saturday Nov. 1st, a “Magical Palooza” of sorts comes to the Stars Dinner Theatre…..a whirlwind of gaiety and merriment.

The threatening threesome will present random acts of magic and senseless facts or banter, all cleverly disguised as a world-class magic show.

Guaranteed fun for everyone is the inevitable and mostly intended outcome.

The ubiquitous Mark Price (aka Gus Flamingo) has enlisted the help of two of the greatest magicians on this planet, Paul Gross of Hocus Pocus Magic fame and Tim Mannix of relative obscurity. This is NOT your grandfather’s magic show, it’s BETTER!

It’s a verifiable potpourri of prestidigitation and an undeniable hodgepodge of family-friendly magical wonderments to behold. No, really.
